TFAM Talks are returning for another year. Join us for a series of one-hour conversations about natural fibres. Each month we will focus on one of four fibres: wool, cotton, linen and silk. We’ll chat about the history, production and current use, and possible future of each fibre in this crazy world of fast fashion and technological hybrid materials. Do you love natural fibres or are you all about the new and shiny? What do you love about them? How do you use them? Given their history and present manufacturing, what ethics do you need to consider when using natural fibres?

Get prepared for TFAM Talks by considering the above questions while checking out some key resources. Each host will provide a few articles, videos, or other links that we invite you to check out. Doing so is not required in order to attend but reading/viewing even one resource ahead of time will enrich our conversation. Feel free to suggest resources that you have. For the SAQA.com resources, many can be accessed without logging in. If you need to dig deeper into SAQA offerings, login with the TFAM Associate membership id, which was emailed to all members. (NOTE: the password is changed at the beginning of each year)
TFAM Talks about Wool (Zoom)
January 11, 2024 - 6:30 PM Hosted by Lynda Matchullis. Log into SAQA. Go to SAQA Seminar 2023 - Week 5: Wool page. When you get to the link the page will say members only so login and you will go to the Wool specific page. You will find an extensive list of articles, videos, podcasts, books, organizations and stores, and artists’ websites about wool. There are lots of Canadian artists featured. Try to find out more about the history of wool, its modern day production, its sustainability, and how artists use it. Consider how you might source and use wool in the future. For example, I am finding some controversy about the ethics and sustainability of how modern day wool is produced. Feel free to look elsewhere for resources and share them with the group at the January session.
