Join us for a rare opportunity to learn from a master. Chris will be travelling west to teach this summer and she will be stopping in Winnipeg to share her felting skills and techniques. She is offering a four day coat making workshop to TFAM members and friends.
This is your chance to make your own one-of-a-kind light weight Nunofelt coat., using prefelt as a base and silk chiffon for the design. This will be an intimate, creative, master-felting skills workshop. Be advised, it is long days of work, standing, and rolling, with reasonable breaks, but not for those with physical difficulties.
These are the basic steps we will take in making a felt coat: Use Chris’ suggested pattern (or one of your favourites), source silk chiffon fabric and prefelt by the yard. Prefelt is a fine merino sold by the yard and ready to turn into nunofelt. It saves the time consuming part of laying loose wool or batts and allows students to jump right into the design fun.
The coat yardage is made in three pieces over three days. Work on the design of felted fabric, with the shape of the coat in mind. You will learn how to do the math to create the size of felt that, when shrunk, will still fit the pattern pieces without too much waste.
Fourth day is cutting, fitting and sewing your coat (if you are uncomfortable sewing, there will be help available.) Sewing and fitting the coat to fit you is where Chris can help with many tips and tricks. Be fearless!

Dates: Aug 12-15, 2025 (4 days)
Times: 9:30am-4:00pm each day. Location: Norwood Community Centre 87 Walter St. Winnipeg Workshop Fee: $275 per student plus appox. $150-200 in supplies. Chris will host a zoom chat with students once registration is full. Max class size is 10 students. *This workshop is open to both TFAM members and non-members. |
