   •
Using Resists – Exploring techniques like gutta, wax, and water-based resists to create defined patterns
   •
Painting Techniques – From freehand brushwork to salt effects and alcohol techniques for unique textures
   •
Design & Composition – Planning your silk piece and creating harmonious designs

Silk painting is a wonderfully fluid and expressive art form, and I encourage you to experiment and have fun!

Workshop 2:
Motifs for Fibre – Your Way
with Leona Herzog

Do you want to create your own designs but don’t know where to start?  This workshop will guide you through a series of creative exercises, using plant material as inspiration, leading to the development of your own design.  Each participant will create an original motif that will then be interpreted in one of two fibre mediums: contemporary embroidery or punch needle.  You might even want to try them both.
Botanicals are becoming increasingly popular as a form of artistic expression and florals are the starting point for this workshop.  Drawing exercises will explore line and shape.  The drawings will then be used to create an original design for each participant to create a small, finished piece.
Options include:
  • Contemporary embroidery using non-traditional materials such as ribbon, cording, wool, beads and other materials along with embroidery thread.
  • Punch needle using a variety of fibres to explore colour and texture
Max students 12
Note: a small kit fee to be paid at the workshop
