Join us for a day of discovery Creating Textile Portraits. Krista Zeghers, an intrepid fibre artist and TFAM member, will guide students through the process of making a fibre-based portrait, based on a photograph. Participants will learn how to take and choose a great portrait photo; design a pattern based on value; choose appropriate fabrics, either realistic or stylized; use a variety of applique styles – turned, raw-edge and reverse; perform thread painting and quilt stitching to enhance portrait details; and how to finish your portrait.
Once you are registered, you will be asked to send a variety of possible digital portrait photographs to Krista ahead of time at[email protected]to be posterized. The photo(s) you send should be of good quality and not pixilated; a mixture of high, medium and low values; copyright free or your own photo; someone interesting that you care about. The face should be the dominant feature, but the person could have something interesting that they are showing or doing.
